BEST Mattress for Airbnb hosts

BestYour guests deserve a good night’s sleep.  A well-rested guest is a happy guest, and happy guests leave 5 star ratings.  When we first started hosting, all of our mattresses were from Craigslist free.  And while I still recommend this route for newbie hosts, at some point you are going to have to upgrade.  This can be a big decision, especially if you have multiple beds.  How do you know the best mattress to buy for your Airbnb? An Airbnb host needs a mattress that is universally comfortable, long lasting, and affordable.

I’ve been an Airbnb Superhost for a while now, and I have spent countless hours of my time on a quest for the perfect Airbnb mattress.  I’ve gone to mattress stores and laid in beds, watched Youtube recommendation videos, and read hundreds of Amazon reviews.  Once I narrowed it down to a handful of mattresses, I put a different one in each of our units to let real Airbnb guests give their opinions.

The big winner…

10′ Lucid Memory Foam Mattress with Down-Filled Topper

Here is what our guests had to say about it:

This is the perfect combination of firm and soft.  Your body sinks into the plush down-filled layer, and then is supported by memory foam.  Since it ships compressed, I could get the mattress up the stairs by myself, and with Amazon Prime it shipped free!  It comes with an opener, and took about a day to completely inflate.  Even with the additional padding of the topper, a queen sheet easily fits over the 10 inches.

And best of all, it’s extremely budget friendly! Other Airbnb sites recommend premium brands such as Casper or Tempurpedic, but those run into the thousands of dollars.  At that price point, it will take years to recoup your investment.

The Lucid mattress and topper combo is WAY more affordable – around $300 for a Queen size.  And in my opinion, they also way more comfortable. Obviously one mattress can’t be a perfect fit to everyone’s taste…but this combo is the closest thing to universal that I’ve experienced.

Down Alternative Pillow (2 pack)

To top it off, we buy at least four pillows per bed.  After a lot of experimenting with both Walmart bargains and $100 pillows (my brother in law works at a mattress store and hooked us up with a discount), I found these dreamy stuffed pillows.  They are at just the right price, and look great on the bed!

One of the best things about being on vacation is the ability to get a good night’s sleep.  Give that to your guests! Besides buying quality mattress, pillows, and linens, ensure their sleep is uninterrupted by providing noise machines, fans, and blinds or black out curtains for the window.  Make sure the room has both light and heavy blankets for hot and cold sleepers.
